3  Juices to Sharpen Your Eyes & 4 Tips to Get Rid of Eye Floaters

Some health experts say it’s a myth that you can improve your eyesight. They are obviously people who have never seen any improvement in others’ eye health nor have they done anything to improve their own eyesight. I have improved my eyesight. Years ago when I traveled continually, I was not able to juice as much. My eyesight declined. I was finding it harder and harder to read when the light was dim and nearly impossible to read the fine print. When I stopped traveling as much and was able to juice every day when I was home, my sight began to improve. Now, I’m my husband’s eyes at times when he can’t find his glasses. And what about him? He’s worn glasses most of his life. When I was traveling, his sight really declined. He had to get several new prescriptions for stronger lenses. But since I’ve been home and juicing for both of us, his sight did not declined any further. Then he had laser surgery and now just needs reading glasses.

Include these juices in your juicing routine for the sake of your eyes!

1. Blueberry Juice

Blueberries are packed with antioxidants that pack a punch for overall eye health and wellness. According to a Tufts University study, “blueberries may help to reduce your risk of cataracts, glaucoma, heart disease, and cancer.” Blueberries are also excellent for brain health. Studies show that blueberries may improve learning and memory and also fight the effects of Alzheimer’s disease. And they’re high in the soluble fiber pectin, which can help lower cholesterol.

2. Carrot Juice

“In the dead of night, just how did the British Air Force manage to gun down German aircraft during World War II? Eating carrots was the key to the pilots’ success, according to the U.K. Ministry of Food.” (Scientific American) Carrots contain a high amount of carotenes, which the body will convert to vitamin A as needed. Vitamin A has been shown to help the eyes convert light into a signal that can be transmitted to the brain, which helps people to see in dim light. Also, “the cornea (the clear front of the eye) can literally disappear if the body does not get enough vitamin A.” Every year between 250,000 to 500,000 children become blind due to a vitamin A deficiency. Also, vitamin A helps to reduce cataracts and age-related macular degeneration (AMD).

3. Kale and Other Leafy Green Juices

Lutein and zeaxanthin are two phytonutrients that are found in high concentrations in your macula—the small central part of your retina that is responsible for central vision. Lutein is found in your macular pigment, which is known for helping to protect your central vision and aiding in blue light absorption. Zeaxanthin is concentrated in the retina. No RDA has been established for lutein and zeaxanthin, but studies have found health benefits for “lutein at a dose of 10 mg per day, and at 2 mg/day for zeaxanthin.” Studies also suggest that dietary intake of approximately 6-20 mg lutein daily may be necessary for adequate eye health support. It is excellent to get these nutrients from fresh greens and juicing helps you concentrate those greens and their nutrients. Lutein and zeaxanthin are found in dark leafy green vegetables, although kale and spinach are the richest in lutein, but it’s also in carrots, squash, and other orange and yellow fruits and vegetables.

4 Remedies or Floaters

  1. Antioxidants – Eating foods and drinking juices rich in antioxidants is a good home remedy for floaters. Include the fruits and vegetables noted above.  Foods rich in vitamin C, beta-carotene, and E are the best sources of antioxidants. Juice carrots, dark leafy greens, lemon, all other brightly colored vegetables.
  2. Taurine (an amino acid) – Taurine, an essential amino acid, is a natural cure for floaters as it maintains the function of the retina. Since this nutrient is not synthesized by the human body, taurine must be obtained from food sources or supplements. Taurine is found in most muscle meat.
  3. Omega 3 Fatty Acids – Hemp oil is believed to be one of the best home remedies for floaters. It is a rich source of omega 3 fatty acids, which have protective properties against retinal diseases.  Omega 3 fatty acids are also found in fish, fish oil, walnuts and wheat germ.
  4. Serrapeptase Enzyme – Serrapeptase enzyme is an effective natural cure for eye floaters. It digests the debris, blood clots and dead tissues that cause the floaters.

Heard you mention on KLTT that there are some fruits and vegtables that don”t need to be organic. And there are others do. Please let us know what these are. Thank you so much J.R. and Yvonne Polhemus.

    • You should avoid all produce on the Dirty Dozen List. Go to ewg.org. They have the list of that and the Clean 15. You can even download an app.
