Back to School Energizer Juices

Even though the weather is warm and the days sunny, most kids have gone back to school and everyone is busy.  That calls for energizing fuel. You may have nothing to do with school now, but perhaps you’re needing a little more energy too.  Juice to the rescue!

Green Juice

The green pigment in green plants, known as chlorophyll, helps to oxygenate the blood, which is essential for good brain function.  Also, greens are rich in magnesium, which gives you energy on a cellular level. Magnesium is required in the production of ATP, our energy fuel.  Studies show most people in the country are magnesium deficient. Juice green veggies such as kale, chard, parsley, spinach, celery, and cucumber.

This super root vegetable offers us one of nature’s most energizing foods. Carrot juice energizes the brain and supports the immune system because it’s rich in beta carotene.

Beet Juice

Rich in antioxidants and nitrates, beet juice has been shown in studies to lower blood pressure and improve blood flow throughout the body, including the brain.

In addition, if you are low on electrolytes, you’ll lose steam.  Electrolytes are your major minerals which include sodium, potassium, calcium, bicarbonate, magnesium, chloride, and hydrogen phosphate. Other signs that you might be low in electrolytes include white fingertips, rapid heartbeat, and skin that loses its elasticity.

Try this electrolyte-rich recipe….

Lemon-Lime Electrolyte Replacer

  • 1/4 cup fresh lime juice
  • 1/4 cup fresh lemon juice
  • 1/2 teaspoon sea salt
  • 2 Tbsp. local raw honey or several drops stevia
  • 2 -3 cups purified water

Mix all the ingredients in a pitcher or jar and chill or add a few ice cubes. This drink is delicious, and also provides electrolytes which energize the body.

Hi Cherie…If i make these three juices ~ how long can they last in the fridge. and how much of “each” a day should the older kids and I have? Can they be consumed EVERY day of the week or do they need to be spread out ?

    • The juices will last in the fridge 1 or 2 days. You can have as much juice as you want. Typically, 1 or 2 glasses a day is what people drink. They can be consumed every day.
