Best Juices is you have Diabetes

Diabetes & Juicing I continue to hear people say that their doctor told them they could not juice because they have diabetes.  Many people think juice is synonymous with fruit juice.  Fruit juice is not what I recommend people juice, and especially anyone with diabetes or other sugar metabolism problems, with the exception of berries and lemon and lime.  You can add lemon and lime to any vegetable juice combination for flavor.   The Best Vegetables and Fruit to Juice for Diabetes Broccoli — a superhero for diabetics.  You can juice the stems—the parts most people throw away.  Steam the florets and juice the rest with veggies like carrot, cucumber, and celery. Broccoli is rich in a phytonutrient known as sulphoraphane, which promotes an anti-inflammatory process that improves blood sugar control. Wild blueberries. A study by the USDA showed that people who “consumed 2 1/2 cups of wild blueberry juice per day for 12 weeks lowered their blood glucose levels, lifted depression, and improved their memories. Researchers credit these results to anthocyanins in the berries, a natural chemical that shrinks fat cells and also stimulates the release of adiponectin, a hormone that regulates blood glucose levels, among other things. Increasing adiponectin levels can help keep blood sugar low and increase our sensitivity to insulin.”1 Spinach.  A British study found that people who had a serving of spinach or other leafy green every day cut their risk of diabetes by 14 percent compared with those that ate less than half that amount. Collard greens. Collards are a good source of vitamin C, which helps to lower cortisol and thereby reduces inflammation. It is also a good source of alpha lipoic acid (ALA), a nutrient that helps us deal with stress.  “When scientists at the Linus Pauling Institute at Oregon State University gave aging rats ALA, they found that the animals’ bodies created their own antioxidants, making them better able to resist toxins in the environment and to reduce inflammation. ALA also helps reduces blood sugar and can help to strengthen the nerves damaged by diabetic neuropathy.”2 If you are cooking the greens don’t overcook it, which creates a strong sulfur smell. Five minutes of steaming or sautéing is all you need. Addressing the Stress & Weight Connection

Addressing the Stress & Weight Connection

Stressing Out Over Your Weight? Are you doing everything right when it comes to diet and exercise, but you’re still not losing weight especially around the midsection? The issue could be chronic stress. Is stress eating an old friend? How about making poor food choices when you feel anxious, depressed or nervous? Stress is not just some inconvenience to push through. Failing to address the stress in your life has profound ramifications on your weight as well as your health. For most people today, stress is an everyday occurrence. Power through a day, fall into bed exhausted. Sleep a few hours, often fitfully, and wake up to do it all over again. This can’t continue year after year. Unfortunately, this takes a hit on your metabolism. If you are having trouble losing weight, you may need to start taking time for you—to rest, de-stress and have some fun. Being stressed for months on end can increase your weight.  A study in 2017 from the University College London measured the stress hormone cortisol levels in subjects’ bodies. Their findings strongly indicate that stress and weight gain are directly linked—a combination for metabolic disaster. Overworked, running late, juggling too much, not sleeping enough…it’s your body on fire. When you’re stressed, your brain tells your body to release stress hormones into your system. And no matter what the reason for the stress, the result is the same. Adrenal hormones such as cortisol, epinephrine, norepinephrine, and DHEA mess with your metabolism. When your stability is interrupted, your emotions, blood sugar, hormones, inflammation, and nervous system get out of whack. Stress hormones cause you to crave certain foods and just plain want to eat more food. Your hormones that control appetite take a dip. You get hungrier and more irritable as the stress continues. Your body keeps pumping out the hormones. Your nervous system goes a bit haywire. Energy is not used efficiently and fat gets stored. If you use caffeine and sugar to get your body going, you may feel good in the beginning but more tired and ready to crash in the end. Stress makes everything worse and makes it harder to make good decisions including what you eat. Stress management is just what the doctor ordered. Choose things like prayer, meditation, exercise, rest, and good sleep. Even just 10 minutes sitting quietly or lying down can have a positive impact on your endocrine system, your inflammation levels, your quality of life, and, yes, your waistline. Estrogen Dominance and What to Do About It

Estrogen Dominance and What to Do About It

Any hinderance of the detoxification process resulting from poor diet, alcohol, drugs or toxins can cause estrogen dominance. The liver has a two-step detoxification process, which filters hormones and toxins in the bloodstream. In phase I, the liver converts substances into toxic free radicals before they are converted into a water-soluble form in phase II. If phase II isn’t operating up to speed, the toxic free radicals build up in your system. Both phases must be in balance in order for proper elimination of waste to occur via sweat, urine, stool or the lungs.

GREEN Your Way to Weight Loss

4 Green Juices for Weight Loss 1. Celery juice. Juice up celery to help your body lose excess water. It contains essential oils limonene and selinene, which give celery diuretic properties. Celery also helps to cleanse the body—get rid of toxins and you lose weight easier. For extra weight loss help, combine celery and lemon, another natural diuretic. As an added bonus, it can help prevent stomach and colon cancer. It also has anti-inflammatory properties and helps to control blood pressure. 2. Watercress juice. This cruciferous vegetable can help heal the thyroid and prevent weight gain. Consuming foods higher in iodine like kelp and watercress, and ensuring that you get enough B-complex vitamins and minerals like selenium (Brazil nuts are high), copper and zinc are also important. Iodine is the number one healer of under-active thyroids, and getting it from natural sources is important. 3. Parsley juice. Scientific studies show this nutrient-rich little herb is a natural diuretic. It’s also one of your best sources of vitamin C. Studies show vitamin C helps you lose weight. One lady said, “Parsley is a miracle! On Thursday I was 72 kg, and two days later – five pounds less! [Got rid of] the accumulated liquid [in] my body. I feel great light.” 4. Wheatgrass juice. Rich in nutrients that support your thyroid, wheatgrass juice helps boost your metabolism. Also, because it is so rich in nutrients, it satisfies the body’s needs for the vitamins, minerals, and phytonutrients it needs. Then cravings lessen or cease altogether. That makes it much easier to eat less and say no to fattening foods. If you can’t find fresh wheatgrass juice, get the powdered...
