Dry Skin Cures

Now that the cold weather is here, skin and hair can dry out quickly. You can hydrate from the inside out. I’ve discovered a few things that can make a big difference. Also, moisturize topically with some of my new products such as Super Hydrating Creme with collagen.

  1. Arctic cold liver oil. Take 2 to 3 tsp. of cod liver oil in the evening before bed on an empty stomach. This is the best brand I’ve tried. I’ve used other brands and they didn’t make a big difference. This brand does.
  2. Drink 8 glasses of water and vegetable juice. increase your vitamin C. Include more lemons and limes in your juice recipes and your water. Vitamin C helps the skin produce collagen, which gives it a plump, moisturized look and feel. Include bioflavonoids. They protect the skin from free radical damage and help vitamin C work better.
  3. Lipoid acid. A study published in the September 2010 “British Journal of Dermatology” suggests that foods containing lipoic acid can reduce dry skin and damage caused by sun exposure. Foods that contain lipoic acid include tomatoes, poultry, round steak and green leafy vegetables.

Stuffed Acorn Squash Recipe

  • 1 acorn squash, baked
  • 1/2 cup grass-fed ground turkey, cooked
  • 1/4 cup quinoa, cooked
  • 1-2 garlic cloves, pressed
  • 1 teaspoon dried basil
  • 1/2 – 1 teaspoon Celtic sea salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon cumin
  • 1/2 teaspoon paprika,
  • Red pepper strips

Bake the acorn squash at 400 degrees for 45 minutes, or until tender.  The easiest way to cut the squash in half is to bake it for about 20 minutes whole.  Remove from the oven, cut in half, and scoop out the seeds, then return to the oven to bake until completely cooked through.  If you add a little water to the baking pan, it will speed the baking process.  While the squash is baking, cook the ground turkey and quinoa in separate pans.  When cooked, scoop the turkey and quinoa into a bowl and add the salt, cumin, basil, and paprika. Stir until well combined.  Scoop half the mixture into each half of the acorn squash.  Top each squash with several red bell pepper strips.
