Feeling Toxic?  Time to Cleanse

Environmental toxins make you fat and cause diabetes(1). Chemicals interfere with our ability to balance blood sugar and metabolize cholesterol. As time goes on, these changes can lead to insulin resistance. “This scientific discovery should be headline news, says Dr. Mark Hyman, but no one is talking about it because there are no drugs to treat it. In the quest to conquer the two biggest epidemics of our time—diabetes and obesity—we’ve got to turn our attention to the heavy burden environmental toxins put on our bodies.” (2)

It’s time to optimize your body’s ability to rid the toxins. If your body’s detoxification system isn’t working well, waste will build up. Overtime, the waste build up is similar to what happens when trash collectors go on strike and don’t pick up the garbage off the streets. The waste piles high, creating a breeding ground for illness.

It’s a toxic environment we live in, steeped in chemicals that our bodies were not designed to process. For a disturbing look at the chemicals that breach the boundaries of our bodies, look at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s National Report on Human Exposure to Environmental Chemicals.  In their latest report, scientists at the CDC found that nearly every person they tested was packing a host of nasty chemicals, including flame retardants stored in fatty tissue and Bisphenol A (2), a hormone-like substance found in plastics.  Even babies are contaminated. The average newborn has 287 chemicals in her umbilical cord blood, 217 of which are neurotoxic (poisonous to nerves or nerve cells) (3).

If you are struggling to lose weight despite eating well and exercising, toxins may be interfering with your body’s metabolism. There’s a lot you can do when it comes to taking out your body’s trash.  I highly recommend a cleanse program.  The New Year is a great time to detox and rid your body of all the excesses including the holiday foods.

  1. Thank you for helping me understand more about cleansing. I’ve read and use your book “Juicing For Life”. I just love the recipes.
I read in other places that some doctors say we don’t need cleansing because our bodies do it for us. I think we need to help our bodies more. Our bodies are under enough stress as it is and the environmental toxins we come in contact with today are very harmful.
Thanks for providing this tidbit of information – ” scientists at the CDC found that nearly every person they tested was packing a host of nasty chemicals”. I guess that proves our point, cleansing is good a practice. Thanks and best wishes!
