Diets Don’t Work

A UCLA study (April 3, 2007) found that “you can initially lose 5 to 10 percent of your weight on any number of diets, but then the weight comes back,” said Traci Mann, UCLA associate professor of psychology and lead author of the study. “We found that the majority of people regained all the weight, plus more. Sustained weight loss was found only in a small minority of participants, while complete weight regain was found in the majority. Diets do not lead to sustained weight loss or health benefits for the majority of people.”

“Would they have been better off to not go on a diet at all? We decided to dig up and analyze every study that followed people on diets for two to five years. We concluded most of them would have been better off not going on the diet at all. Their weight would be pretty much the same, and their bodies would not suffer the wear and tear from losing weight and gaining it all back.” 1

This is not to say that people should not lose weight.  It is to point out that adopting a healthier way of eating and a fitness lifestyle is the ONLY way to approach weight loss.

  1. My comment is regarding the Anti-Inflammation Book. I saw Cherie on Sid Roth and thought I would really like to start doing this. I once was more conscience of what I ate, but since going thru a rough patch I couldn’t even afford vitamins. I’m in my forties and it seems like I’m experience all sorts of crazy symptoms. One in particular is hair loss, for about 4 years now (Thank God my hair was always very thick) A dermatologist took a biopsy of my scalp and told me that that symptom of hair loss was from genetic balding(never claimed that, but that doesn’t make it go away). I thought for sure this book would help this. I was surprise to see that the book wasn’t all about juicing and a clear break down of “if you have this then drink this”. It was filled with a list of expensive items on a shopping list and recipes that the average NYer doesn’t have time for. However, I must say it was very helpfull in other ways and informative.

    • Hi Debbie, I think the book you would like is The Juice Lady’s Guide to Juicing for Health. It is an A-Z Guide. You look up the condition and it does say “drink this” and eat this, and take these supplements. The Anti-Inflammaiton Diet is a healing program for anyone suffering from any illness. Inflammation is always at the root and people must eat an anti-inflammatory diet. It does have juice and smoothie recipes.
