3 Juices To Improve Memory

How many times have you searched your “brain files” looking for that name or word, only to come up blank? You can change that. I know. No more frustrating blank brain moments. It’s time to drink your way to a better brain function.

Pomegranate juice

It’s the polyphenols in pomegranate juice that spark up your brain. They are neuroprotective. A 2013 study with 28 older adults who had memory challenges found that those who drank 8 ounces of pomegranate juice per day significantly improved markers of both verbal and visual memory. There is also evidence from animal studies that pomegranate juice can help Alzheimer’s disease.

Berry juice

Berries such as blackberries, blueberries, strawberries, and raspberries— are a rich source of anthocyanins and other flavonoids that can boost memory function. “Researchers looked at data from the long-running Nurses’ Health Study of nearly 122,000 registered nurses between the ages of 30 and 55 who completed health questionnaires starting in 1976. Every four years the nurses were surveyed on their eating habits and between 1995 and 2001, researchers began testing memory in 16,000 of the nurses who by this time were over 70 years old. Testing the subjects’ memory in two-year intervals, the researchers found nurses who ate the most blueberries and strawberries delayed their memory decline up to 2.5 years compared with those who did not report eating berries. Spinach juice

Researchers found that spinach can help keep your brain alert in old age. It is packed with antioxidants which can block the effects of free radicals — toxins that damage cells and can lead to heart disease, cancer, and strokes. “Studies suggest the lifelong accumulation of free radicals in the brain is linked to mental decline in old age and is also a probable factor in Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s diseases. Today’s Recipe

Spinach Power Up

  • 1/2 cucumber, peeled if not organic
  • 1 small handful of parsley
  • 1 green lettuce leaf
  • 3 carrots, scrubbed well, tops removed, ends trimmed
  • 2 ribs of celery with leaves
  • 1/2 beet, scrubbed well, with stem and leaves
  • 1/2 lemon, peeled if not organic

Cut produce to fit your juicer’s feed tube. Juice ingredients and stir. Pour into a glass and drink as soon as possible. Serves 1.
