Your Body Believes Every Word You Say!

Barbara Hoberman Levine describes the language of the link between mind and body in her book “Your Body Believes Every Word You Say”. Barbara’s fifteen-year battle with a huge brain tumor led her to trace common phrases like “that breaks my heart” and “it’s a pain in the butt” back to the underlying beliefs on which they are based and the symptoms they cause. She lists hundreds of common examples of words we use unconsciously every day and shows how these “seed thoughts” can set us up for illness.(1)

There is power in your words. Negative words can affect your energy in a very real and negative way. Self-talk can be very damaging to your body. How many times have you called yourself stupid, fat, idiot, sick? How many times have you thought to yourself, “I will never get well?” “I will never lose weight?” “I will never achieve this?” And if you think that negative words don’t have the same effect if you just think them—they do.(2)

Dr. Brett says, “When we learned about intuition, we learned that thoughts can create sensations and symptoms in the body. A thought can literally change your physiology. A word can have the same effect. Words can be wave reducers or wave amplifiers. ” Negative self-talk could prevent your body from healing.(2)

Proverbs18:4 says, “A person’s words can be life-giving water; words of true wisdom are as refreshing as a bubbling brook.”

Whatever you are struggling with—from wanting to lose weight to a serious disease such as cancer, it is very important to speak words of life to your body. Watch every word you think. Don’t let fear creep in. Tell your body it is getting well. It is losing the weight you need to lose. It is getting better and better each day. Whatever you need to achieve, it is so very important to speak words that are positive and powerful. “Call those things which are not as though they were.” (Romans 4:17)
