Here’s the research on why the Watercress Soup Diet is so effective:

Study on Thyroid Improvement

Studies have shown that the benefits derived from regular consumption of watercress may be from “secondary metabolites and other phytonutrients which repair cellular damage.” Watercress works effectively as a preventive against thyroid disease along with some cancers and cardiovascular disease. (Manchali; Journal of Functional Foods, 2012; 4(1):94-106)  (BTW: Dr. Mercola reported on this and recommended watercress for thyroid.)

Watercress is one of the best plant sources of iodine. Studies show that small amounts of iodine “cause slight but significant changes in thyroid hormone function in predisposed individuals.” (https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/9703374)

Effect of small doses of iodine on thyroid function in patients with Hashimoto’s thyroiditis residing in an area of mild iodine deficiency. – PubMed – NCBI

Eur J Endocrinol. 1998 Jul;139(1):23-8. Clinical Trial; Randomized Controlled Trial

“Insufficient iodine intake impairs the production of thyroid hormones, leading to a condition called hypothyroidism. Iodine deficiency results in a range of adverse health disorders with varying degrees of severity.” (http://lpi.oregonstate.edu/mic/minerals/iodine) Iodine | Linus Pauling Institute | Oregon State University lpi.oregonstate.edu

Anti-Aging Food for the Face!

Would you like to look younger while also losing weight?

There is a study reported in the Daily Mail on watercress and anti-aging—the latest wonder food for the face. (http://www.dailymail.co.uk/femail/article-2216852/Eat-way-facelift-Watercress-latest-wonder-food-battle-anti-ageing.html)

Eat your way to a facelift: Watercress is the latest way to a facelift: Watercress is the newest wonder food in the battle against aging. The study showed 10 out of 11 females experienced visible improvements to their skin.

Watercress for workouts!

“In this particular study, ten healthy young men were given a small bag of watercress, about 3 ounces, daily for eight weeks. The participants were then asked to execute treadmill workouts that included short bursts of intense exercise. Another group, which was not given watercress also performed the treadmill workout after eight-week as a control.

The athletes who had not eaten watercress experienced more DNA damage, and for the watercress consumers, the benefits were seen after just one dose. In other words, the nutrients didn’t need to accumulate over days. Those who ate the veggie just two hours before hitting the treadmill experienced the same benefits as those who had munched on it daily for two months.” (http://www.shape.com/blogs/weight-loss-coach/eat-green-veggie-better-workout-results.

  1. I want to do this but I am at 4-H quilt camp in Walla Walla, WA, and may not get a picture to you until tomorrow morning. I have been successful at juicing for 21 days and would have done a full 30 but had to ease off the juice as I had to go on a trip and it was not possible to continue juicing.

    • Sally, that’s not a problem to get the picture to me tomorrow. You can start next week with the group.

  2. Michelle

I am interested in joining the pilot program but not interested in being in the Woman’s World Magazine. I have had thyroid test done and know that my T3 is low and the Dr’s want to test it again in 3 months. Could I do the pilot program if I am not interested in the Magazine? Thanks, Michelle

    • I’m sorry Michelle, but you need to agree to be interviewed by Woman’s World to join this program. This is why I’m doing the pilot study.

  3. Can I participate when I live in Central Europe? What else is required?

    • We’re looking for US women. Thanks Zuzana for your interest.

  4. Thank you 🙂

  5. Hi – I tried your watercress soup recipe earlier this week and loved it so much so that I am making more this afternoon. Who knew watercress could taste so good?
I was very excited to see your pilot program. For the record – I read Women’s World Magazine and enjoy it. However, I am a Canadian. Are we excluded?

    • Cathy, I’m quite sure everyone needs to be from the US. So glad you like the soup.

      • Cathy, If you would like to join that would be fine. So even if WW is taking only US ladies, you can still join the group. Send a picture.

Hi! I signed up for the program and I sent my photo separately to your email. I did not receive any confirmation or instructions. Is there anything else that I was suppose to do? Thank you!

    • Hi Patricia,
Thank you for your photo and registration. The program will be going out today.

      • Patricia Viescas

thank you for your reply……but oops….I see now that I am too old….I am 56…..ugh…sounded like a great opportunity!!!! If possible, I would still like to see the program so that I can try the program anyway!

        • Patricia,
You can be part of the group. I sent out the call for the 20s – 40s today because I need more women in that age group. Most of the people who signed up are 50 and over. I need a good representation of all ages.

    • No, Patricia, you are set! Welcome!!!

  7. How strict is the cutoff age? I’m 46 and would love to join.
